Drive electric and save

PLACEHOLDER image

Electric cars are the simplest way to reduce the environmental and health impacts of driving. EBCE connects our customers with information, incentives, and rebates that make it easy and cost-effective to drive electric and charge your car.

Give a boost to healthy communities

The transportation sector stubbornly remains the single largest contributor of health-impacting air pollutants in Alameda County. Driving electric is safe and fun — and allows you to contribute to meeting state and local air quality objectives that benefit us all. It also saves money: when paired with EBCE’s clean electricity, the cost to refuel an electric car can be a fraction of the cost of gasoline or diesel. And incentives, rebates, and other perks like carpool passes can apply for those who qualify.

Electric Car Basics & Models

There are three different types of electric cars designed to meet different driving needs: all-electric, plug-in hybrid electric, and fuel cell electric.

Charging Your Electric Car

Imagine never stopping at a gas station again — and instead have an unlimited supply of fuel available at home or anywhere else you normally park. Learn about the three convenient ways to charge your electric car at Home, Work or Out and About.

Home Charging

EBCE offers residential rates for electric car drivers, providing you a cost-effective way to charge your car at home. Our time-of-use rates make driving electric more affordable when you charge in off-peak hours, and also help to support the grid by shifting charging loads away from times of the day when usage is high, such as early evening.

Public Charging

There are more than 1,300 public charging ports in Alameda County. EBCE is working to deploy even more ports to make it easier to drive electric when charging at home isn’t an option.

Need to find a public charging option? The PlugShare app can help you find a charging station when and where you need it, and enable you to search by charging speed and tell you if the chargers are currently available.

You may need a subscription to charge with some charging networks, so plan ahead and do your research before hitting the road.

Hard to find access to charging stations?

If you’ve found it hard to access charging stations and have a specific location where you’d like to see them installed, let us know!
